Memories of last years disastrous league cup campaign came flooding back as Alloa took the lead in 2 minutes, through Andy Brown with a neatly placed header from a cross, by ex Caley Jags man, Darren Thomson.
Caley Thistle may have had a bit of a wobble on this potential banana skin but they soon steadied themselves and got on with the job in hand. In 18 minutes ICT were back on level terms after a neat one two with Wyness set up Barry Wilson for his first goal of the season. Two minutes later Wilson turned provider as he tapped a harmless looking free kick to Ritchie Hart, who fired home from 35yards.
On 37 minutes, that man, Wyness was at it again as he took the ball to the by-line and neatly cut back for Roy McBain to tap it into the net. Just before the break Craig Dargo became the provider as Russell Duncan became the fourth midfielder to score on the night.
The onslaught continued after the break when Grant Munro headed home a Ritchie Hart corner to make it five. Still no forward had scored and the only surprise was that it took 87minutes for Wyness to put that right, when he turned in a lovely half volley from 18yards.
