Morgan Spiced

Last updated : 24 October 2005 By John Kelly

With Grant Munro back in central defence and Brewster returning from suspension, up front, there was a great feeling of optimism amongst the Caley Thistle support.

However, it took only 13 minutes, for all feelings of superiority to vanish, when Harald Pixten volleyed Richard Britain’s corner home.

This should have been the spur that Inverness needed but it was not to be. For most of the first half Caley Thistle were firmly camped in their own half. The occasional foray up field seemed to self-destruct with alarming regularity. Brewster’s first touch seemed to have deserted him; Wilson seemed under the illusion that he had resigned for Livingston, as all his passes found a player in yellow and Wyness ran around without ever seeing the ball. Indeed if it wasn’t for a couple of fine saves by Mark Brown, then the half time score line could have appeared much worse to the Inverness men.

It is, as they say, a game of two halves and although there was no line up change, a more competent Inverness team came out for the second half.

Someone seemed to have reminded Wilson, just who it is that pays his wages; Brewster began to get the ball under control but most of all Wyness began to see more of the ball and show us some of those twist and turns he is so famous for. Despite all this and the increased composure of the Caley Thistle team, Livi were still the hungrier and it showed.

Despite a vocal away support and a few players responding to this, most notably Fox and Morgan, Caley Thistle still lacked that final touch. This was most apparent when in 66 minutes; Denis Wyness seemed to take on the whole Livingston team only to put the ball past the post from six yards out.

It wasn’t long though before those fans had something to cheer about, as 5 minutes later Greg Strong took Liam Fox out of play. After the referee had resolved the resultant argument by booking both Strong and Fox, Alan Morgan stepped up and sent a well placed, free kick past McKenzie and into the back of the net.

Shortly afterwards Livingston were reduced to ten men when Graham Barrett was stretchered off. Reduced to ten men, the home side were content to defend in numbers and play down the clock and so it was that, this once, most volatile of matches fizzled out into an unremarkable one all draw.

Man of the match was a close run thing between Morgan and Fox, but in the end I think Fox just shades it for being the most consistent of the two.
