Match Report for the home game against Aberdeen

Last updated : 16 October 2005 By Colin Christie
It was a beautiful day for a game of football, the sun was shining and both sets of supporters had turned up in numbers. Unfortunately no-one told the players that!
In the first half both teams looked pretty average to say the least with Aberdeen perhaps looking the sharper of the two. They were the first to cause problems with Scott Muirhead skipping past a helpless Ross Tokely to fire in a cross, but Stevie Crawford headed wide of Mark Brown's post.
Next was Scott Severin, he headed into Brown's arms from a Jamie Smith free kick.
It wasn't until about 30 minutes into the game when Inverness got their first real chance on goal, the ball fell to Wyness in the box and as he was trying to shoot Zander Diamond pulled him back and his shot was sent across the goal instead of towards it. Referee Stuart Dougall seemed to ignore this foul and from the resulting shot Craig Dargo attempted to flick the ball into the net but it was easily gathered by Ryan Esson.
In the remaining 15 minutes of the half neither team looked capable of scoring.
At half time both managers must have had a "quiet" word as the game seemed to have a bit of va va voom about it.
With the half barely started Inverness had found the way to goal, Wyness laid the ball off for Liam Fox but his shot was wide of Esson's post. From this Inverness seemed to be getting more into the game and even managed to successfully string a few passes together. However in the 56th minute Aberdeen got the ball to Smith about 40 yards from the Inverness goal and after strolling forward a few yards he unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner. 1 - 0 Aberdeen.
With the Inverness fans praying for a miracle (or at least some substitutions) they seemed to get what they wanted, Dargo was hooked and Graham bayne came on making his long awaited return from injury. This was to be an inspired move, as in the 76th minute Esson spilled a powerful low drive from Proctor into the path of super sub Bayne and he made no mistake by driving it high into the net. 1 - 1.
Immediately after the restart Aberdeen tried hard to hit the winner but could not find the killer ball. In the 85th minute Inverness made two substitutions off came Liam Fox and Barry Wilson and on came Ian Black and Ritchie Hart.
This gave Inverness a much needed injection as straight away Ritchie Hart picked up the ball in his own half and burst down the left wing. He went past two Dons players and sent in a perfect low cross for Wyness, but unfotunately he hit it straight at Esson. Then in the dying seconds Hart was again involved, after an Aberdeen attack broke down Inverness were quick to counter and the ball was taken forward by Wyness who slipped a good pass through to Hart, however Don's captain Anderson made a last ditch slide and took the sting out of Harts shot allowing Esson to gather comfotably.
Final score 1 - 1

ICT summary -
looking at what Hart had done in the last five minutes compared to what the rest of the Inverness midfield had done in the previous 85 then surely Mr Brewster has to look at bringing him in to the starting line up.
As for the rest off the team the only one's that showed any real form were Morgan, Wilson and Dods. Brown did not have much to do so can't say much more. However the midfield and front line were very poor today no-one seemed to be able to control the ball and passes were just being hit high and hoping someone would reach them.
I could pick out individuals that performed very badly but I'm sure that will be reflected in the team selection for next week.

Man of the Match -
This has to go to an Aberdeen player and it is Scott Muirhead. He was aconstant threat down the wing and made the usually solid Ross Tokely look poor. Good crossing and good vision.
