Tel Unhappy With Draw

Frustrated Inverness manager Terry Butcher lamented his team's cutting edge against the Hamilton defence in his team's 1-1 home draw.

Dani Sanchez had given the Highlanders the lead but Accies levelled from the spot on the stroke of half-time.

"The creation, desire, that bit of skill in the final third, wasn't quite there today," he told BBC Scotland.

"The belief to score wasn't there as well. We've got to get ourselves back into that frame of mind."

Sanchez's strike in 18 minutes was Inverness's first league goal after a barren spell.

"There are goals in the team, though it's the first we have scored in three games," said Butcher.

"We like to get forward and score goals. But if you're not playing well in the final third you're not going to score many goals.

"I'm very disappointed that we haven't won the game. We got ourselves in a good position but we didn't get the second goal, which we wanted to."

With half-time looming, the SPL's basement side drew level when Grant Munro felled Gary McDonald and Mickael Antoine-Curier slotted home the penalty.

"We played St Mirren here on Boxing Day, went 1-0 up and allowed St Mirren back in the game, as we have done with Hamilton," said a disconsolate Butcher.

"It's not as though they had to create anything for the goal; it was just a simple ball in to the box and it was a penalty. We gave the ball away very easily. It's not good.

"Even in the second half we still had opportunities, we got into some areas and the final ball was poor.

"You could see towards the end of the game that the long journey that we had on Tuesday (at Rangers) plus the long journey we had last Saturday (against Motherwell), you could see it take its toll on our players.

"Hamilton didn't have a game in midweek."

Caley Thistle host Aberdeen on Wednesday and Jonny Hayes could be in contention for a starting place after coming on for the last 15 minutes in place of the home goalscorer.

"It was good to see Jonny back in action," said Butcher. "It was a bonus, really, him coming on."
