Inverness boss Terry Butcher praised the effort of youngsters Graeme Shinnie, Shane Sutherland and Nick Ross during the 2-1 defeat to St Mirren.
But there was little else to please Butcher after he saw a brace from Steven Thomson earn the Paisley side the three points after Lee Cox`s early opener.
Butcher said: "There are some bright spots to come from the game. Those three [Shinnie, Sutherland and Ross] were very good and Ryan Esson was very good in goal but the rest have to be much better.
"It's the manner of our defeat more than anything else that doesn't sit well with me but we have a chance to bounce back on Wednesday against Kilmarnock and bouncing back is something we generally do very well."
