The Glasgow club had hoped to move the Bank of Scotland Premier League visit of Inverness Caledonian Thistle from Saturday, October 29 to a midweek date and had suggested December 21st.
Inverness Caley Thistle also indicated their willingness to accommodate the request but had not wanted to inconvenience their fans and wanted the game to go ahead on a Saturday. However their suggestion of November 12th was rejected as an International friendly is being played that day.
Now Rangers must play host to Inverness three days before the Group H clash with Artmedia on November 1.
Rangers boss Alex McLeish told the club's official website, www.rangers.co.uk: "I had hoped for a free weekend to prepare properly for the Artmedia away match and I was pleased when Inverness indicated that they were willing to switch.
